West Campus Facilities

Each residential facility in the West Campus House System features comfortable, well-equipped living spaces; students can choose single rooms, doubles, or suites. Public spaces directly support the program vision with common rooms for large gatherings, seminar and meeting rooms for smaller gatherings, and rooms for study, computing, and music practice.

Types of support

Cornell welcomes gifts of all sizes. Select naming opportunities are described below.

House professor apartment: $500,000

These apartments become homes for senior faculty members and their families, and often serve as program spaces as well. West Campus house professors and deans routinely host students and guests for a variety of activities, including:

  • Study breaks
  • Floor open houses
  • The house professor’s tea series, where guests, house fellows, and other faculty are invited to meet with small groups of students to discuss academic or non-academic topics
  • Dinners with visiting guests and scholars
  • Student guidance sessions—helping students plan for graduate study, volunteer service, and internships, and giving job-search advice

Common room: $1 million

The common room serves as the living room of each West Campus house and is a multi-use space suitable for events running the gamut from serious to frivolous. Activities in the common rooms have included:

  • A poetry reading by Ted Kooser, 13th poet laureate of the United States
  • House council-sponsored movie nights
  • Pilates, aerobics, relaxation, and yoga workshops
  • Suhoor, a Muslim pre-fast meal and gathering
  • House council meetings
  • Book signings and talks by authors such as Oliver Sachs, Jim Bouton, Dava Sobel, Deborah Tannen, and Micah Garen
  • A chess exhibition and challenge by grandmaster Sam Palatnik
