Intellectual/Social Balance
Faculty house fellows provide intellectual stimulation outside of the classroom by expanding students' exposure to research, educational, and cultural opportunities; developing and teaching courses; advising and mentoring; and just engaging in casual discussions.
Students have plenty of opportunities to chat with faculty, either informally during weekly house dinners or at events like Faculty Night dinners held each semester.
The aim of West Campus is to create a seamless environment for undergraduate education where students can connect personally and informally with faculty members who are world leaders in their fields.
The West Campus House System also offers students opportunities to meet and interact with distinguished visiting guests to Cornell who often stay in guest suites within each house. Visitors to West Campus have included:
- John Ashcroft, former U.S. attorney general
- Carol Kuntz '84, former assistant for homeland security affairs to U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney
- Hanan Ashrawi, Palestinian scholar and diplomat
- Jason Reich '98, Emmy Award-winning writer for The Daily Show
- Julian Bond, civil rights activist and chairman of the NAACP
- Marilyn Berger Hewitt '56, New York Times contributor, and Don Hewitt, producer of 60 Minutes
