Carl L. Becker House
The "Café Scientifique" series, hosted by house dean Cindy Hazan in her Becker House apartment, brings house fellows and students together to explore the latest ideas and issues the house fellows are studying. They also come together to engage in a new series of talks entitled "Why I Became a College Professor," in which faculty discuss the evolution of their respective careers with students. Here, house residents chat with Professor Tom D. Gilovich, chair of the Department of Psychology.
"The best part about living in Becker House is being able to interact with the students as well as the staff here," says house resident Sabrina Imam '09. "More specifically, West Campus offers a lot of opportunities to explore whatever you're interested in, both intellectually and socially."
Carl L. Becker House honors the memory of Carl L. Becker (1873-1945), a beloved and inspirational professor of history at Cornell from 1917 to 1941 who characterized the Cornell character as combining "freedom with responsibility." Cindy Hazan, associate professor of human development, is the house professor and dean.
