Transforming Residential Life at Cornell
Enriching student life is a key component of Far Above…The Campaign for Cornell, which is not only making sure Cornell is affordable to the most talented students, but also ensuring that their experiences are stimulating and supportive once they are here.
The Residential Initiative has already made huge strides in creating a new undergraduate experience at Cornell. On a campus of 20,000 students that may at first seem larger than life in size and intellectual rigor, students are calling the new residential communities on North and West campuses "home."
Freshmen now live together in a smaller, shared community that eases their transition to university life and gives them a sense of class camaraderie. Upper-level students needn’t leave the life of the mind behind in the classroom but can explore intellectual interests more broadly and informally through daily conversations with faculty or distinguished guests, right where they live.
Faculty commitment to undergraduates, and undergraduates’ eagerness for a university experience that doesn’t separate the intellectual from the social or personal, continue to drive this ongoing transformation.
Explore through this website the opportunities the Residential Initiative has already made possible for students. And consider the possibilities yet to be realized.
