Daniel Huttenlocher describes his endowed professorship as a daily reminder to question, discover, and re-invent.

"My professorship is both an honor and a motivator," says Huttenlocher, who is the John P. and Rilla Neafsey Professor of Computing, Information Science, and Business. "Jack Neafsey wanted to bridge the worlds of science, engineering, and business. I understand how important those ties are in the business world, and his objective to unite them intrigues me. We are a natural match, and Jack continues to be a tremendous inspiration for me."

Huttenlocher is a member of several interdisciplinary teams at Cornell -- including one devoted to building cyber-infrastructure tools that will allow researchers to manipulate, search, and process vast amounts of data. Analyzing this data has the potential to illuminate aspects of social behavior such as life attitudes, opinions, behaviors, values, landmark decisions, and turning points in controversial issues.

Huttenlocher explains that his endowed professorship recognizes the interdisciplinary work he has accomplished and the work he has yet to do. "I get to share ideas with Jack and learn from him," he says. "He forces me to think about what I'm doing and where my research is going. The professorship continues to have a significant impact on my professional and personal lives."
